| I should be dead, just like Diana and those who were in the car with her almost 10 years ago. I have been guilty of speeding on more than one ocassion. People speed for many reasons. Some are in a hurry. Some are running late all the time. Others enjoy the thrill of speeding, of evading the radar guns. Others are comfortable going the “acceptable” speed of 5 or 10 miles over the limit. Many have forgotten what limit means. My speeding has always been because I was running late. As in going to work. One day, on my morning commute down rural Alabama highway 69 a state trooper stopped me. I was going at the “acceptable” (in this part of Alabama) (10 miles over the limit) speed of 65 in a 55 mile per hour zone. I didn’t get a ticket. But the trooper said two words that stuck with me. SLOW DOWN. You are running a little fast, he told me. I have been guilty of going a lot faster than that. But the words stuck with me. SLOW DOWN. So After the trooper let me go on my way, I did what most people do after an encounter with a traffic cop. I slowed down. But as I thought about what he had said, I made a decision. Not only would I slow down then, I would slow down for good.

I knew it would mean leaving earlier for work. But I made the commitment. I searched the web and found statistics that show how speed kills. My commitment became stronger. Then I thought about sharing this commitment with others through the power of the internet and the idea for this web site was born.
I want to encourage everyone who reads this to seriously consider slowing down. Reducing their speed as often as possible and practical. Don’t go so slow that you cause an accident. But slow down. When you make your commitment, e mail me at ekirtdoll@slowdownyourspeed.com. I feel that lives can be saved by making the commitment to slow down. Maybe your life. To allow you to publicly show your commitment to slow down, I will soon make available SLOW DOWN YOUR SPEED bumper stickers. Thank you for visiting SLOWDOWNYOURSPEED.COM. Bookmark this site and come back. I will be adding statistics, personal stories about speeding, celebrity accident stories, links to web sites that promote safe driving and other interesting content. Please tell others about SLOWDOWNYOURSPEED.COM.
